Abstract

This abstract delves into the intricate dimensions of human trafficking, a grave crime recognized as a multifaceted human rights violation. Beyond being a criminal act, it emerges as a substantial contributor to global threats to security and the economy, cutting across diverse demographic characteristics including race, socioeconomic classes, age, gender, and nationalities. The United Nations General Assembly Palermo Protocol (2000) provides a pivotal framework, defining human trafficking in its article 3(a) as a crime of exploitation that encompasses a wide range of heinous activities. The narrative unfolds, shedding light on the gravity of human trafficking and its far-reaching consequences. Positioned within the context of a multidimensional human rights violation, the abstract highlights the global impact of this crime that extends beyond geographic boundaries and societal divisions. The interconnectedness of human trafficking with security and economic threats underscores its pervasive nature, making it imperative to address its root causes and repercussions comprehensively. The abstract emphasizes the significance of the Palermo Protocol in providing a foundational definition for human trafficking. The protocol, adopted by the international community, acts as a cornerstone in the collective efforts to combat this crime. By focusing on exploitation, the definition encapsulates the various forms and manifestations of human trafficking, encompassing the diverse ways in which individuals are victimized and coerced. In conclusion, this abstract serves as a gateway to understanding the intricate layers of human trafficking, emphasizing its pervasive nature and the critical role of the Palermo Protocol in framing and combating this global challenge.
