Abstract

Gender plays a pivotal role in shaping individuals' career trajectories, influencing their choices, opportunities, and experiences. Historically, women have confronted formidable obstacles in their professional journeys, from pervasive gender stereotypes to overt discrimination and limited access to leadership roles. As societies worldwide strive for greater gender equality and inclusivity, comprehending the profound influence of gender on career counseling becomes increasingly crucial. This study delves into the often-overlooked realm of gender differences in career counseling, with a particular emphasis on the factors that influence career decisions and the coping strategies employed by individuals of different genders.

The field of career counseling is dedicated to providing support for individuals in making well-informed career choices, navigating transitions, and achieving their professional aspirations. Nevertheless, gender disparities in career counseling have been inadequately examined in both research and practical contexts. Recognizing and addressing the unique challenges and experiences encountered by individuals of various genders can significantly enhance the efficacy and relevance of career counseling interventions.

This research embarks on an exploration of the multifaceted landscape of gender differences in career counseling. By scrutinizing various dimensions of career development through the lens of gender, this study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of how gender molds individuals' career paths, experiences, and counseling needs. Furthermore, it aspires to identify actionable insights and recommendations for career counseling practices that can effectively tackle gender-specific challenges and advance gender equality within the realm of career development.

Theoretical frameworks, such as Social Role Theory and Gender Schema Theory, serve as the bedrock for comprehending the impact of societal norms, expectations, and cognitive frameworks on individuals' career choices and their experiences with career counseling. These frameworks underscore the significance of integrating gender-related factors into career counseling interventions and adapting counseling approaches to cater to the diverse requirements of clients.

To achieve our research objectives, we employ a multifaceted approach encompassing an extensive literature review and in-depth interviews. Qualitative data will be gathered through interviews and focus groups, offering profound insights into how gender shapes the experiences and outcomes of career counseling. This comprehensive examination of the interplay between gender and career counseling seeks to bridge existing knowledge gaps and facilitate the development of more inclusive and effective career counseling practices.
