Abstract

Electrical energy plays a crucial role in powering various electronic devices and is indispensable in modern life. Monitoring and understanding the consumption of electrical energy are essential for maintaining the performance and longevity of electronic equipment. In this study, we propose an Electrical Energy Monitoring and Control System in Boarding Rooms based on the Internet of Things (IoT) to provide real-time information on electricity usage. The system aims to assist power users in monitoring and optimizing their electricity consumption, ultimately promoting energy efficiency.

The proposed monitoring system builds upon existing research, incorporating advances in IoT technology to enable remote and real-time monitoring. Previous studies have shown promising results in accuracy and efficiency. In one study, the authors achieved accuracy levels ranging from 96% to 98% for inductive and resistive loads using a real-time monitoring system. Another research effort designed a monitoring system utilizing the PZEM-004T sensor, NodeMCU module, and relay, exhibiting an error accuracy of ±1.8% compared to a digital multimeter. Inspired by these findings, our work seeks to further enhance the measurement stage by integrating the Blynk platform, aiming for a more accessible, faster, and flexible measurement process.

Drawing on the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT), a technology introduced by Kevin Ashton in 1999, our proposed system enables users to remotely monitor electricity consumption without physically visiting the location. By leveraging a microcontroller-based approach, users gain insight into electricity consumption patterns in boarding rooms, facilitating informed decisions to optimize power usage and promote energy-saving practices.

The significance of this research lies in providing a practical solution to monitor electrical energy consumption and promote energy efficiency. The proposed Electrical Energy Monitoring and Control System in Boarding Rooms based on the Internet of Things (IoT) contributes to sustainable energy practices, reduces wastage, and empowers users to make informed choices about their electricity consumption.
