Abstract

The historical use of cosmetics has left an indelible mark on human civilizations, transcending time, place, and purpose. This comprehensive abstract delves into the enduring presence of cosmetics, highlighting their multifaceted significance in various cultures and epochs. Derived from the Greek word "κοσμεῖν" (pr.cosmin), which translates to adorn and decorate, cosmetics have been employed for a plethora of purposes, ranging from the solemn burial of the deceased to sacred religious ceremonies. However, their most ubiquitous application has been in the realm of everyday life, where cosmetics serve as both a guardian of well-being and a vessel for enhancing beauty.

This abstract explores the rich tapestry of cosmetics' historical and cultural relevance, positioning them as emblematic artifacts of a society's evolution. Over the centuries, cosmetics have been emblematic of the progress of civilization, functioning as touchstones for the ever-evolving notions of beauty, health, and societal hierarchies. From ancient Egypt's use of cosmetics in elaborate mortuary rituals to contemporary skincare regimens, this abstract unveils the enduring appeal of cosmetics as a vehicle for self-expression, self-care, and cultural identity.
