Abstract

Stories have always held a special place in human society, captivating our attention and leaving lasting impressions. From the cherished memories of childhood bedtime tales to the motivational fables and parables shared by parents, stories play a significant role in shaping individual and group personalities. Recognizing the undeniable impact of storytelling, educators have integrated stories into various classroom activities to engage and educate students effectively. This research explores two primary methods of presenting stories: storytelling and reading aloud. Each approach offers unique benefits and may be preferred by teachers for different reasons. Abrahmsen (1998) identifies storytelling as a vital foundation in the teaching profession, improving students' speaking and listening skills. Similarly, Al-Mansour & Al-Shorman (2011) discover that listening to stories read aloud fosters sound listening habits, enhances comprehension, and positively influences language skills. Furthermore, storytelling goes beyond linguistic improvement; it fosters empathy and understanding among individuals, facilitating meaningful connections through shared experiences. The study investigates the impact of storytelling and reading aloud on language comprehension and moral development. By analyzing the effect of these methods on students, the research aims to provide valuable insights into their long-term educational and personal growth. Moreover, the research explores how stories can serve as a medium for lifelong learning and connecting with past experiences.

The findings of this study have significant implications for educators, parents, and society at large. Understanding the power of storytelling can lead to the development of more effective teaching strategies and curricula that leverage the innate appeal of stories. Furthermore, embracing storytelling as a means of instilling moral values and inspiring positive behavior can contribute to the holistic development of young minds. In conclusion, stories have proven to be an engaging and impactful tool in shaping minds and fostering interpersonal connections. Both storytelling and reading aloud hold immense potential for enhancing language skills and comprehension while leaving a lasting impression on individuals. By recognizing the profound influence of stories, we can harness their power to create a brighter and more empathetic future.
