Abstract

This study delves into the evolving landscape of delivery riders, who emerged as essential frontline workers during the pandemic, facilitating the supply chain amid COVID-19 restrictions. The challenges posed by the transportation sector are further compounded by driver turnover. Acknowledging the importance of not only recruiting top talent but also retaining them, this research sheds light on the experiences of female delivery riders. The study highlights how financial constraints forced numerous individuals into delivery roles, exposing them to new encounters. Despite the gender diversity in North American gig platforms, discrimination, harassment, and wage gaps persist among gig workers, prompting the need for understanding women's perspectives and coping mechanisms. The focus shifts to Grab PH, a super app, and its commitment to enhancing female representation within its driver and delivery-partner communities. By offering comprehensive support services and inclusive livelihood options, Grab PH empowers female delivery partners, expanding job opportunities for women in a traditionally male-dominated industry. The study emphasizes the transformative impact of such employment on families and society, promoting financial stability and role modeling for future generations. The research also explores the dual nature of female riders' experiences, examining how freedom and flexibility in gig work can affect sleep patterns, workloads, and social connections. It contrasts risk management strategies of food delivery drivers, demonstrating the significance of driver control in mitigating risk outcomes. The study further addresses legislative interventions aimed at safeguarding drivers' interests. In the context of these issues, this study aims to delve into the lived experiences of female delivery riders, uncovering their challenges and coping mechanisms. By delving into the realities faced by Filipino female delivery drivers, the research contributes to a comprehensive understanding of this dynamic sector.
